Black History Live! invites the public to a free, multi-sensory celebration on the last two weekends of February. The event will kick-off with the return of “A Race Against Race,” a series of anti-racism message quilts by Quilter/Priest Mother Carol Burnside, open both weekends from 12-4 PM, with a special presentation by Mother Carol on the stories behind the quilts on Saturday, February 15th at 1 PM.

On Saturday, February 22nd, the Black History Live! performance will spotlight a stirring portrayal of Frederick Douglass by actor/historian Nathan Richardson, enhanced by local performers delivering the spoken word and live music. Mr. Richardson will also lecture on the significance of musician Cab Calloway’s influence on Rap as poetry. The event will conclude with a special performance by Chris Calloway Brooks, Cab Calloway’s grandson and leader of the Cab Calloway Orchestra, featuring selections crafted specifically for this production.

Black History Live! is dedicated to the memory of Camay Calloway Murphy, long time member of St. John’s Church in Havre de Grace and daughter to Cab Calloway.
