Main Street Business Spotlight: Sew Another Stitch
Nestled in the heart of downtown Havre de Grace, Sew Another Stitch is bringing new creative energy, warmth, and community connection to the town’s vibrant Arts & Entertainment District. Founded by mother-daughter duo Amy and Emma, this cozy needlepoint shop at “The Cottage” on St. John Street offers a welcoming space for both seasoned stitchers and total beginners.
We sat down with Amy and Emma to talk about their story, their passion for needlepoint, and what makes their new storefront a must-visit destination in Havre de Grace.
A Shared Passion Turned Main Street Dream
For Amy and Emma, needlepoint is more than just a craft—it’s a family tradition. Amy first taught Emma to stitch when she was around eight or nine years old. Over the years, stitching became a relaxing retreat from their busy careers.
After searching for needlepoint shops across Maryland and realizing how few dedicated spaces existed nearby, they decided to take matters into their own hands.
“We love needlepoint, and we realized there really wasn’t anything like this in the area or even across most of Maryland,” Emma shares. “We launched our online shop on November 1st, 2023, thinking we’d take a year to work out the kinks before finding a storefront. But everything moved so much faster than expected!”
When they came across “The Cottage” in downtown Havre de Grace—a charming location with a wide porch and convenient parking—they knew they had found their home. They officially celebrated their brick-and-mortar Grand Opening on May 16th, 2026.
What Is Needlepoint?
For those unfamiliar with the craft, needlepoint is a tactile, restorative form of needle art. Stitchers use various fibers, such as silk, velvet, fuzzy threads, and metallic glitz, to stitch onto a grid canvas.
Most canvases sold at Sew Another Stitch are hand-painted works of art created by independent designers across the country. Every intersection on the mesh canvas is meticulously painted by hand, making each piece a unique artistic investment.
Beyond the finished beauty, needlepoint offers immense mental health and wellness benefits.

A Welcoming Community Hub
Amy and Emma built Sew Another Stitch with community at its core. Recognizing that traditional needlepoint shops often close early in the evening, they deliberately set customer-friendly hours designed for busy lifestyles and evening commuters:
- Tuesday – Saturday: 10:00 AM – 8:00 PM
- Sunday: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM
- Monday: Closed
Classes, Finishing & Free Stitch Nights
Whether you want to learn the basics or advance your technique, the shop offers a complete suite of services:
- Beginner & Advanced Classes: Learn fundamental stitches or dive into specialized techniques like beadwork, ribbon work, and decorative stitches.
- Professional Finishing Services: Bring in your completed canvas, pick out your backing fabric, and let their team coordinate with expert finishers to transform your work into pillows or ornaments.
- Weekly Free Stitch Nights: Every Thursday evening from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, the shop opens its doors for a free, informal gathering. Pull up a chair, enjoy complimentary drinks and snacks, chat with fellow local stitchers, and work on your current project.

Local Favorites in Havre de Grace
Though Emma commutes down from New York City on weekends and Amy resides locally, both owners have fallen deeply in love with the Havre de Grace community. When they aren’t at the shop, you can find them enjoying some of their favorite local spots:
- Dining & Drinks: Grabbed-after-work wings and crab cakes at Coakley’s Pub or a morning pick-me-up at the local downtown coffee shops.
- Sweet Treats & Antiques: Browsing vintage treasures at Seneca Cannery Antiques, stopping by Bomboy’s for sweets, or picking up stationery at Glyph Stationers.
