Based loosely on Puccini’s La Boheme, Rent School Edition follows a group of young, starving artists in New York’s East Village as they struggle to survive and thrive in the height of the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Edited from the Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize winning musical, Larson’s score, which has become a cult musical for the counter culture, has been tamed down in language and the song “Contact” removed to make the landmark musical appropriate for younger performers and audiences.
