Theatrical Intimacy Training Workshop with Becky Mossing

January 6 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm

Havre de Grace Opera House
Free

FREE, but space is limited, so registration is required.

In today’s world, actors in a rehearsal process must be treated and also treat one another with care. No longer is it acceptable to touch without permission or approach intimate moments in a scene without thought to the people sharing those moments. It is vital to create a space where everyone feels there is consent. Theatrical Intimacy training offers five pillars for its trauma informed practice for actors/directors and other creatives: Context, Consent, Communication, Choreography and Closure. In this workshop, we will:

~ gain a basic understanding of the five pillars of Theatrical Intimacy Choreography
~ learn to use the universal tools and vocabulary in Intimacy work
~ have the opportunity to put this new learning into practice utilizing simple intimacy choreography

Becky Mossing has performed all over America and overseas. Credits include Beauty and the Beast (nat’l tour); Cinderella Waltz (Ubu Rep – Off B’way); Working with Showdown Theatre Arts, in Guildford, United Kingdom; and both productions of Hairspray in Concert with John Waters and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. Becky has narrated weekday and family series concerts for the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra including Carnival of the Animals, The Remarkable Farkle McBride, Wizards and Wands, and A Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra. Her cabaret performances have been seen frequently in the Baltimore area. Becky’s directing credits include The Polar Express and A Remarkable Farkle McBride with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Working, Our House, Hairspray, Rent, Elegies, Urinetown, and Listen to My Heart with Showdown Theatre Arts, U.K. As an Intimacy Choreographer, Becky’s focus is mostly dedicated to work with high school students and includes intimacy choreography for recent productions of Rent, Classical Text Project, and Sophomore Scenes at the Baltimore School for the Arts. She also choreographed intimacy scenes for Sweeney Todd at Havre de Grace Opera House. However, she thoroughly enjoys taking that work into the community for various projects and performances.
Mossing is currently the Head of Theatre at the Baltimore School for the Arts where she spent nearly two decades as the school’s Musical Theatre instructor. She was Director of TWIGS, BSA’s after school and Saturday arts program for 9 years.
